Academic Sanctions & Advising ResponsesThe third leg of the Triad Program involves advising work with students whose academic performance has led to academic sanctions. Academic sanctions are imposed on students who do not meet minimum academic standards, as follows: - Academic probation is the consequence of a student’s cumulative GPA falling below 2.0 for the first time.
- Academic warning is the consequence of a student’s term GPA falling below 2.0 for the first time, though the cumulative GPA remains above 2.0.
- Academic dismissal is the consequence of a second consecutive term with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 by at least one quality point. One-term dismissals are imposed when the quality point deficiency is 1.0-2.99. Two-term dismissals are imposed when the quality point deficiency is 3.0 or more.
- Academic suspension is the consequence of a second consecutive term GPA falling below 2.0, whether or not the second term leads also to academic probation.
Students receiving academic sanctions of probation or warning are required by faculty policy to complete an academic improvement plan for the subsequent term. Students may develop these plans either with their advisor of record or with a member of the Academic Advising staff. The plans are kept on file at Academic Advising, and may be considered by the Academic Standards Committee in their deliberations regarding a student’s continuance in future terms. An academic improvement plan form is available on the Academic Advising Web page. Students receiving academic sanctions of suspension or dismissal are required by faculty policy to complete an academic performance agreement before a petition for reinstatement is considered by the Academic Standards Committee. Once again, the agreement may be developed either with their advisor of record or with a member of the Academic Advising staff. Performance agreements become a part of the student’s permanent academic record, and may be considered by the Academic Standards Committee in their deliberations regarding a student’s continuance in future terms. Performance agreement forms are also available on the Web. |
