COACHES' PROFILES
Sarah Canfield
Varsity Women's Coach
/Program Director
Sarah enters her third season as the Crew Program Director and Head Women's Coach at University of Puget Sound in 2007-08. She came to Washington after three years in Massachusetts, acting as the Novice coach for Boston College in 2004-2005 and Smith College from 2002-2004. While at Smith, she was also the Interim Head Coach for the fall season 2003.
In 2007, the Loggers advanced to their fifth consecutive NCAA Championship, finishing fourth. Canfield was also named Co-Coach of the Year by the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference (NCRC).
In first season with the Loggers, she led the team back to the NCAA Championships after the team won the Petite Finals in both the 1st Open 8 event and the 2nd Open 8 event at WIRA against the top collegiate squads on the west coast.
The U.S. Rowing Level III certified coach has spent recent summers coaching community rowing programs, working with adult and junior rowers. She was the Head Coach of the Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club in Alaska for two seasons and has spent the past two summers coaching with Boulder Community Rowing in Colorado. She enjoys being able to combine coaching with her love of the outdoors, spending her free time mountain biking, camping or hiking with her dog Chloe.
Canfield graduated from the University of Kansas receiving her Masters in Social Welfare in 2002. She rowed for two years with the KU Club team and four years with the Jayhawk's Varsity Women's Rowing program. She was a four time recipient of the Jayhawk Scholar award and member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Big XII conference. She received the team's Senior Academic Award in 2002.
Woody Stark
Novice Women's Coach
Stark joins the Loggers in 2008 after coaching at Portland State Universty the last season. Following two years as novice women's coach, Stark assumed the varsity women's coaching postion at PSU in spring 2007. Prior to Portland State, Stark coached for Pacific Rowing Club in San Francisco, Calif.
Stark rowed and coxed for Willamette University from 2002-2004, graduating with a degree in European History in 2004.
