Head Coach Suzy Barcomb
Head Coach Suzy Barcomb completed her ninth season leading the Logger Women's Basketball program with a 24-7 overall mark, and a second-straight 13-3 mark in NWC play. The 24 wins established by the 2006-07 squad are the most by any team in Puget Sound women's basketball history. Following the 06-07 season, Coach Barcomb's career coaching mark is 172-68, placing her at the top of the list for wins for women's basketball at Puget Sound and ranks her in the top 50 in the nation for winningest active coaches by percentage among Division III teams. The Loggers have enjoyed four twenty-plus win seasons and seven consecutive seasons earning 16-plus wins under the direction of Coach Barcomb.
In 2006-07, the Loggers tied for the NWC-crown with George Fox and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Loggers headed down to George Fox and knocked off #12 McMurry and then #25 George Fox to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. After an impressive win over #2 Howard Payne, the Loggers fell short in the Elite Eight,.
In 2005-06, Puget Sound placed second in the NWC, placed second in the NWC tournament and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA national tournament. This was the second national appearance in three years for the Loggers. Puget Sound defeated Cal Lutheran in the first-round game but lost in the round of 32. Puget Sound earned top-25 rankings by DIII hoops and the Women's Basketball coaching polls. The Loggers finished the year ranked 24th by the WBCA. Nationally, the Loggers were ranked fourth in three-point field-goal percentage, fourth in turnovers per game average (13.5), 21st in scoring margin, 37th in won-lost percentage (79.3%) and 33rd in scoring offense (73.5). The Loggers ranked sixth, 12th and 15th nationally in three-point field-goal percentage in a game with Senior Kilty Keaton ranked 15th nationally in three-point field-goal percentage in a season (78-181; 43.1%).
In 2004-05, the Loggers climbed the national DIII Hoops rankings to 4th in the country and top 10 by the Women's Basketball Coaching Association. The Loggers finished ranked second nationally in free-throw percentage, 17th in three-point percentage, 24th in field-goal percentage and 38th in rebounding margin in the 2004-05 campaign.
Barcomb directed the 2003-04 Loggers to a Northwest Conference Co-Championship and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA III national tournament. It was the first trip to the NCAA III national tournament for the Women's Basketball program and the Loggers made the most of it, advancing to the Elite Eight before falling to the National Champion.
Coach Barcomb also demands the Loggers to excel in the classroom, with numerous scholar-athletes and dean's list athletes. The team's GPA is consistently ranked in the top five out of 21 sports, with a cumulative GPA above the 3.0 mark for eight consecutive years. The 2004-05 team earned a program high 3.35 cumulative team GPA, earning the Phil and Gwen Phibbs Award with academic excellence awarded at the All-Sport Athletic banquet.
In her first year as the Head Coach, the Loggers finished 21-6 in 1998-99, earning a trip to the NAIA II national tournament and a top 25 national ranking, which Coach Barcomb was named the Pacific Northwest Coach of the year for her efforts. The Loggers shot out of the gates with a 13-0 mark, which still stands in the record books as the best start in Puget Sound Women's basketball.
A native of Springfield, Missouri, in which her Dad and three siblings still reside, Suzy attended Central Missouri State University on a volleyball scholarship for two years. She was recognized as First Team All-District as a middle hitter. Barcomb also played one year for the Jennies Basketball team as a small forward, before transferring to the University of Washington were she walked on, playing one season for the Huskies Basketball program. A graduate of the University of Washington with her degree in Kinesiology and Teacher Certification, Barcomb has coaching experience at numerous camps, AAU and summer leagues, high school and the club level before joining the Puget Sound staff in 1995 as an Assistant coach.
Assistant Coach Joleen LaMay

Joleen LaMay, returns as the Assistant Coach for the Puget Sound Loggers. Coach LaMay is entering her ninth season as Coach Barcomb's assistant. LaMay joined the Logger coaching staff after a five-year stint at Sumner High School as the girl's basketball coach. Coach LaMay's primary responsibilities include guard play, zone defense and daily practice sessions. Coach LaMay oversees the Logger Basketball play during the summer.
LaMay joined the coaching ranks at Sumner High School in 1994 and quickly became one of the top young coaches in the area. She was South Puget Sound League Coach of the Year in 1995-96, the TNT Area Coach of the Year in 1995-96 and led her team to the West Central District Playoffs in 1996-97. Coach LaMay is entering her 11th year of teaching Health/Fitness and Aerobics an is in her fifth year of Co-Department Chair for the Physical Education and Health department at Sumner High School.
LaMay is a local product, playing at Sumner High School, Walla Walla Community College and Lewis-Clark State College. LaMay was a Kodak All-American and first-team NWAACC in 1988-89 while attending Walla Walla CC. LaMay was an outstanding player at LCSC from 1989-91, helping her team to the Regional play-offs each year. LaMay earned her BS from Lewis-Clark State in 1992 and her Masters of Education degree in 1999.
Assistant Coach Allison Kalalau
A four-year letter winner and three-year captain for the Women¹s Basketball program, Allison is now entering her fifth year as assistant coach with the basketball program. Allison graduated from Puget Sound in 2003 with her undergraduate degree in Sociology. The following year Allison earned her Masters of Education from Puget Sound. Allison taught at Soos Creek Elementary for one year prior to focusing more time and energy to the Women¹s Basketball program at Puget Sound.
Allison had a highly successful career at Puget Sound and was known for her intense competitive nature as well as a deadly three-point threat. Allison still ranks in the top five in career three-point percentage (.345), most three point field goal attempts, (296), most made three pointers (102) and three-point attempts in a single season, (158).
Allison¹s major responsibilities are recruitment, travel, academic monitoring and assisting with the daily practice sessions. Her familiarity with the basketball program, the University combined with her basketball knowledge is a great asset of the program and the student-athletes.
Allison and her husband, Ryan Kalalau, also a Puget Sound graduate, live in the Tacoma area with their son Rohan.
