Kristen Murphy first began her work at the University of Puget Sound Community Music Department as a flute instructor in 1987.  Three years later, she accepted the position of program director for the department.   In addition to her administrative position, she continues to teach private flute lessons through the department and she performs periodically in the Tacoma Concert Band.  She holds an AA from Cottey College and BA from Puget Sound.

Ms. Murphy is currently serving a three year term as chairman for the Northwest Chapter of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.  Her work for the National Guild has included serving as a trustee, serving on the Council of School Directors, participating in the Mentoring and Partnership Program, working on a conference planning committee, and serving as a site visitor for the organization.
