Veterans Policy

A veteran must have a program and register only for those classes pertinent to the degree sought.  A student registered for only Independent Study for a term is considered to be enrolled less than half-time.

A student must notify the veterans affairs coordinator in the Office of the Registrar of any changes in VA status such as a change in the program of study, a change of credit load, or a change in regular class attendance.  A student is liable for all monies received from the Veterans Administration.  When a student “withdraws,” the benefits generally stop as of the beginning day of the term.  If a student “unofficially withdraws” and does not notify the veteran affairs coordinator of the last day in class, the benefits will stop as of the beginning day of the term and the student will be required to return the money received for that term.

Withdrawal grades and repeated courses are reported to the Veterans Administration.  The VA will notify the student of a reduction in training time and any overpayment.  The VA is notified when over four units of failing grades are received.  The VA will then send a letter to the student and require the student to come to the regional office for counseling to determine whether or not additional benefits will be allowed.

It is the student’s responsibility to know the policies of the university and the Veterans Administration affecting veterans benefits.
