Scholarship Recipient 2003

The University of Puget Sound is proud to announce the third recipient of the LGBT Leadership Scholarship, Prairie Cutting '04.  The LGBT Leadership Scholarship has grown to an endowment of more than $31,000 raised through the efforts of alumni, faculty and staff, and the Office of Development.

Senior Prairie Cutting is a part of the United Methodist Reconciling Ministries Network and has worked since high school for the full inclusion of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people in the United Methodist Church.  In her application, she stated, “I see the condemnation of homosexuality by many Christian churches as one of the biggest challenges of our time. . . . Being a leader takes extra spiritual strength and the support of the community.”

She has been involved on campus as an officer in B-GLAD and as president of the UMeth club.

A plaque with the names of the LGBT Leadership Scholarship recipients and Lavender Graduates hangs in room 203 of the Wheelock Student Center.
