Scholarship Recipient 2004
The University of Puget Sound is proud to announce the fourth recipient of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Leadership Scholarship, Erica McGillivray, ‘06.
The LGBT Leadership Scholarship has grown to an endowment of more than $42,000 raised through the efforts of alumni, faculty and staff, and the Office of Development
Erica was the co-president of the Puget Sound club, Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians, and Allies for Diversity (B-GLAD) the 2003-04 academic year and was elected by her peers as co-president for the following year as well. B-GLAD is one of the campus's most vibrant student organizations and produced many social and educational programs. “Erica is a strong advocate for the LGBT community at Puget Sound and the greater Tacoma community,” states B-GLAD co-advisor Marta Palmquist Cady. “Under her leadership, B-GLAD fostered a wonderful, supportive community among the members of B-GLAD and that positive environment trickled out to the wider campus community also. Evidence of that trickling was apparent when B-GLAD won the Diversity Programming Award at the 2004 University Leadership Awards Ceremony.” Erica is also one of the co-founders and current president of the Pagan Student Alliance. She is an English major and hails from Bend, Oregon.
The Puget Sound LGBT Leadership Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 in order to recognize students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community at the University of Puget Sound. The purpose of the scholarship is to complement successful academic experiences by providing financial support for student leadership and involvement in the LGBT community. The committee welcomes applications from students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or as heterosexual allies.
