Saxophonist Fred Winkler joined the Puget Sound faculty in 2004.  He received his undergraduate degree from Washington State University, studying with saxophonist and composer Gregory W. Yasinitsky, and his MMus from Northwestern University, studying with saxophonist Frederick L. Hemke.  As a freelance musician throughout the northwest, he has been a guest artist at such venues as the Seattle Marrowstone Music Festival, Montana Saxophone Festival, North American Saxophone Alliance Symposium, Puget Sound's Jacobsen Concert Series, Zephyr Contemporary Music Ensemble, and University of Washington Contemporary Music Group.  Mr. Winkler has performed as a part of the Federal Way Symphony, Washington/Idaho Symphony, Tacoma Symphony, Spokane Symphony, and the Olympia Symphony.  Also playing flute and clarinet, he has performed in dozens of professional musicals, most recently performed in Kiss Me Kate and Thoroughly Modern Millie at the nationally renowned Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater in Idaho.  Mr. Winkler also serves as coordinator for Puget Sound's Community Chamber Music Program.
