James Bowyer conducts the Dorian Singers and the University Chorale.  He recently earned a MMus degree in choral conducting and vocal performance & pedagogy from Westminster Choir College, where he studied conducting with Joseph Flummerfelt and James Jordan.  While at Westminster he sang with the renowned Westminster Choir and the Westminster Symphonic Choir in performances with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, the Orchestra at St. Luke’s, and the Spoleto Festival USA.  He presently is completing doctoral studies in choral conducting and voice at the University of Washington.

Mr. Bowyer has taught elementary, middle, and high school music in Indiana, Missouri, and Washington and has recently served on the faculty at Gonzaga University as Interim Director of Choral Activities.  Presently he teaches music with a Kodaly emphasis at Stevens Elementary School on Capitol Hill and is a consultant for the Macmillan-McGraw Hill Publishing Company.  He recently completed his Level 1 Certification in Kodaly Music Education method.
