Study Abroad Programs

There are three categories of study-abroad programs at the University of Puget Sound, "UPS sponsored", "partnered", and "approved" programs.  Financial aid eligibility differs between these programs.

UPS Sponsored / Partnered Programs

Students participating in either a UPS Sponsored or Partnered Study Abroad Program pay tuition and fees, and in some cases room and board, to the University of Puget Sound.  Students are eligible for all university, federal, and state financial aid, excluding work-study, during their semester abroad.

Approved Programs

Students participating in an Approved Study Abroad program pay tuition, fees, room and board directly to the institution or program they will attend (host school).  The student is responsible for the bill to the host school.

Students participating in an Approved Study Abroad program are eligible for federal or state financial aid, excluding work-study, but are not eligible for Puget Sound scholarships or grants during their semester abroad, except for the Trimble Scholarship for Asian Studies.

Things to do before you go abroad...

Check the status of your financial aid on the Cascade Web site. Be sure that all financial aid requirements have been met well before you leave.

Students receiving scholarships, grants, or student loans should complete a Limited Power of Attorney form. Limited Power of Attorney permits you to appoint a relative or friend to act on your behalf for the limited purpose of endorsing and depositing all disbursements of financial aid for credit to your student account at the University of Puget Sound.

Cooperative Education (Co-Op)

The Cooperative Education (Co-Op) Program allows students to formally link a work experience to their curriculum for academic credit.

Students participating in a .5 unit co-op program are eligible for federal or state financial aid, excluding work-study, but are not eligible for Puget Sound scholarships or grants.
