Health Professions AdvisingThe Health Professions Advising Program provides academic and career counseling, practice interviews, committee letters of evaluation, and application assistance for students who aspire to careers in the health professions. Advising services are not limited to medical school applicants; students interested in dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, and other allied health careers are encouraged to use the services of the Health Professions Advising Program. Barry S. Anton, Ph.D., psychology, Alyce DeMarais, Ph.D., biology, and Joyce Tamashiro, Ph.D., biology serve as co-chairs of the Health Professions Advising Committee. More than twenty faculty members from a variety of campus departments comprise this committee. They may serve as academic advisors or informal advisors for students majoring in their discipline. These faculty members also interview and evaluate students as they go through the application process. Prospective applicants are encouraged to make early contact with the chairs of Health Professions Advising or with the Health Professions Advisor, Annie Horton, in Howarth 215A. Though students will primarily work with an advisor in their major, those who are interested in the health professions will also work with the Health Professions Advising Program faculty members and staff. |
