Graduate Fellowships & Health Professions

Students have many opportunities to earn external scholarships, fellowships, or other special support for postgraduate travel, research, and study; and some external awards support upper-division undergraduate study. The director of Graduate Fellowships and Health Professions works in collaboration with a Professor Michael Curley, a fellowships faculty advisor, as well as faculty designates to assist students in applying for external fellowships and scholarships awards, including the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, Mitchell, Mellon, Fulbright, Truman, Howard Hughes, Goldwater, Rotary, and other awards such as the Morris K. Udall Undergraduate Scholarship.

The Graduate Fellowships and Health Professions Office also provides special career counseling, committee interviews, letters of evaluation, and application assistance for students who aspire to careers in the health professions. Advising services are not limited to medical school applicants; students interested in dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, and other allied health careers are encouraged to use the services of the Health Professions Advising Program. Professor Wayne Rickoll, Ph.D., biology, serves as chair of the Health Professions Advising Committee. Faculty members from a wide variety of campus departments comprise this committee. They may serve as academic advisors or informal advisors for students majoring in their discipline. These faculty members also interview and evaluate students as they go through the application process. Though students will primarily work with an advisor in their major, those who are interested in the health professions will also work with the Health Professions Advising Program faculty members and staff.

All students who are considering opportunities in fellowships and/or health professions are encouraged to make early contact with the Graduate Fellowships and Health Professions Office. For appointments, students may come to Howarth Hall 215 or contact our office via e-mail.
