Dining and Conference Services

The Dining Services eateries are located in the Wheelock Student Center and in the quad of Harned and Thompson Halls.

The Diner offers a fresh and inviting look with a wide variety of menu options. The emphasis is on freshly prepared foods. Nutritional information is published and available in the Diner.

  • Tomassito’s showcases a gas-fired brick oven for preparing freshly baked pizza and calzones. This area also offers a variety of pastas and sauces.
  • Casa Ortega features a Hispanic flavor with made-to-order burritos, tacos, salads, and nachos for that south-of-the-border taste.
  • The Pacific Rim station brings a taste of Asia with freshly prepared stir-fry options. Accompaniments may include sticky rice, fried rice, egg rolls, and soup.
  • Vegetarian and Co. features entrees for those who prefer vegetarian or vegan alternatives.
  • The Grille’s bill of fare offers the traditional choice of hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken strips, fries, and other choices for people on the run.
  • Our full-fare area offers traditional comfort foods such as slow-roasted turkey with dressing and mashed potatoes and Northwest favorites such as grilled salmon with béarnaise sauce. We often put a new spin on old favorites-for example, macaroni and cheese. A changing selection of fresh soups is available daily.
  • The Deli provides made-to-order sandwiches with an assortment of breads, meats, cheeses, and vegetables.
  • The Diner’s salad bar features an extensive array of garden-fresh selections as well as a number of prepared salads. The offerings change regularly to ensure that there will always be something different, appetizing, and healthy for the campus community.

The Diner also offers an abundant selection of beverages, cereals, desserts, fresh fruit, pastries, and snack items. For those in a hurry, we provide a variety of premade sandwiches, fruits, and vegetables from our grab-and-go cooler. These items are prepared each day to ensure the highest quality and are on a rotation so the selection is varied.

Diversions Café is a Northwest-style coffee shop. Diversions provides a complete line of specialty coffee beverages made from the freshest beans available. Fonté, a Fair Trade-certified Seattle company, roasts the beans especially for Puget Sound to ensure the finest quality. Diversions Café features pastries from the best bakeries in town, freshly baked cookies, and a selection of natural, Naked Juice products.

The Pizza Cellar is located on the lower level of the Wheelock Student Center and offers hand-thrown pizza, tempting breadsticks, and hand-dipped ice cream. The Pizza Cellar also offers a variety of products to supply your residence such as boxes of cereal, gallon containers of milk, and a variety of bulk snacks and other staple items. The Cellar is a great gathering place for lunch or for a late-night reprieve from the rigors of a busy class schedule.

Oppenheimer Café is the newest addition to the Dining Services "family." Located in the newly created science quad of Harned and Thompson halls, the glass and stainless steel structure displays an enormous crystalline formation. This bright and sunlit café offers specialty coffee drinks, fresh pastries, salads, and a popular assortment of savory wraps.

The University of Puget Sound offers an a la carte meal plan. Students may purchase only the items they want, when they want to purchase them. Students purchase items by using an ID/debit card that is issued by Dining Services. The choice of meal plan determines the amount credited to the card at the beginning of each semester. There are several meal plans to choose from. We recommend a medium plan for most students. First-year students may want to consider a hearty plan because they have an extra week on campus while they attend Orientation programs. The ID/debit card may be used in the Diner, Diversions, or the Pizza Cellar. Students with documented dietary restrictions are encouraged to meet with the Dining Services management staff to discuss how we can best accommodate their needs. Dining and Conference Services information is available on their Web site.
