Center for Writing, Learning, and Teaching

The Center for Writing, Learning, and Teaching provides opportunities for all Puget Sound students to achieve their academic goals. A comprehensive program of services includes classes, workshops, tutoring, writing conferences, and support for students with special needs.

Classes
Accelerated Reading, Introduction to the Internet, and Vocabulary Development are credit classes that are designed to increase reading efficiency, build vocabulary, and improve the effectiveness of online research.

Tutoring
Students requesting assistance in specific subject areas, such as biology, chemistry, foreign languages, math, music, or physics, meet individually or in small groups with a faculty member or trained peer tutor.

Writing Conferences
Freshmen and seniors, poets and scientists, historians and psychologists come to the Center for advice about writing. Whether a writer has a completed draft or no draft at all, a faculty member or a specially trained peer writing advisor will provide thoughtful feedback.

Academic Counseling
Students seeking to maximize their academic performance work individually with the academic counselor on topics such as textbook reading, study techniques, time management, test taking, and preparation for graduate exams. Workshops can be arranged upon request.

Disability Services
Coordinator of Disability Services Ivey West arranges specific services and resources for students with disabilities and helps faculty provide appropriate accommodations for students with special needs.
