Career and Employment ServicesCareer development is a process. It is never too early for your student to begin exploring careers and building job-searching skills. Career and Employment Services provides a comprehensive approach to student employment (work-study, part-time, and summer jobs), internships, career planning, and post-graduation pursuits. Every job builds your student’s resume, builds their network of contacts, builds their knowledge of what they’re good at and what types of work environments they enjoy. As students align themselves with opportunities, CES has resources to support every step of their career development process. Parents also play an important role in their student’s career development. Students often look first to their family to help them establish career goals. Talking with your student about skills, values and interests, and encouraging career exploration is a great way to get them thinking about and preparing for their future beyond Puget Sound. Please feel free to refer your student to CES when they have questions about: Employment and Internships - CES coordinates hiring for all student jobs on campus, including work-study jobs.
- Job Boards listing part-time, temporary, seasonal, and summer jobs on campus and in the local community are located at CES. More job listings and job search resources are available at the CES Career Resource Library in Howarth 101, and on the CES Web site, including Vault Online Career Library.
- On-Call Lists allow students to sign up to have employers contact them directly about childcare, tutoring, general labor, house/pet-sitting and other “on-call” jobs.
- Internship opportunities are searchable in NIC InternTrak through the CES Web site.
- Resources for post-graduation opportunities include Hot Jobs Web postings, on-campus employer recruiting, and Career Fairs, among others.
- CES Career Connections is a weekly e-newsletter directing students to the latest listings of Hot Internships and Hot Jobs along with other resources, tools, programs and services supporting their career goals.
- Assistance with job search preparation includes resume and cover letter critiques, interviewing tips, and job search techniques.
Exploring Careers and Discovering a Calling - Online Assessments help students assess their values, interests, and personality styles which may point to potential career options. Students complete the Strong Interest Inventory and/or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator online and then meet with a career counselor to receive an interpretation of the results.
- Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) Online Network is a searchable database of over 1800 alumni who have volunteered to be information resources for students interested in connecting with professionals in specific fields. ASK Night is an annual campus event where students can mingle and network with ASK members.
- "What can I do with a major in…?" Web pages, Career Resource Library books, one-on-one career counseling, and educational workshops help students discover career options.
