Borrowing Privileges

Borrowers' Responsibility

Patrons are responsible to inform Access Services of changes in mailing addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses to facilitate receiving notices on incoming interlibrary loan & Summit requests, overdue items, recalls and holds.   

  • If you are a student, also inform the Registrar's office of any contact information changes.
  • If you are a faculty or staff member, make sure that Human Resources also has your correct information.

Patrons are responsible for materials checked out on their cards and for returning library materials by the due date/time indicated.

Fines

UPS Items

  • 2 hrs reserve - $.50/hr per item 
  • 6 hrs reserve - $.50/hr per item 
  • 24 hrs reserve- $.25/hr per item 
  • 3 days reserve - $3.00/day per item 
  • 1 wk reserve - $1.00/day per item 
  • 4 wks - $.25/day per item 
  • Replacement fee - $50.00 per item (non-refundable)

Summit Items

  • $.50 per day for the first 10 days per item 
  • $1.00 per day for the next 15 days per item to a maximum of $20.00 per item. 
  • Replacement Charges: $75.00 per item, with a $15.00 service charge per item for a total of $90.00

Renewals, Returns, & Recalls

Renewals

Most items may be renewed.

Note: You may not be eligible for renewals if:

  • the item is not a renewable item.
  • the item is exceedingly overdue.
  • the item has been recalled.
  • you have exceeded the renewal limit for your patron type.

You may renew items in person, by telephone, or by viewing your "Circulation Record" in SIMON, the library catalog, from the library's home page. 

  • If renewing online, go to our library's Web site and check your library record (you will need the barcode on your library card)
  • If renewing in person, please have valid identification ready for the desk assistant.
  • If renewing by telephone, please have the barcode from your library card ready to tell the desk assistant.

Returns

  • Return UPS items to the library.  You may use the book drops which are located at the entrance of the library and at the Circulation desk in the library.
  • Note: Please return all equipment and other OIS Tech Center materials to the Tech Center on the ground floor of the library.

Recalls

  • Items are not subject to recall.  Faculty may recall an item for reserve purposes only.  If items are needed for research, try ordering via Summit or ordering via Interlibrary Loan.

Photocopiers

There are 4 photocopiers located in the library:

  • 1 near the periodical display (10 cents per page)
  • 1 near the federal documents section (10 cents per page)
  • 2 in the basement near the restrooms (5 cents per page)

Photocopiers will take nickels, dimes, quarters, and $1 bills. If you need to get change, you may do so at the Circulation Desk.

Microform Machines

There are 6 microform machine readers located in the basement of the library:

  • 1 is capable of viewing and printing microform and microfiche. It is also capable of scanning and sending documents directly to your desktop
  • 3 are capable of viewing and printing microfilm and microfiche
  • 2 are capable of viewing and printing microfilm only
  • All microform copies are free.

Carrels

  • The are study carrels on all floors of the library.  Some are in closed rooms and some are in open areas.
  • These rooms are occupied on a first come, first serve basis and cannot be reserved.
  • Please do not leave your personal belongings unattended.

Lost and Found

If you have lost an item in the library, please ask a Circulation staff member for assistance.  Otherwise, please contact security at extension 3311 (if calling on campus) and 253.879.3311 (if calling off campus).
