Professor Pat Krueger chairs the music education program, coordinates music education practicum experiences in public schools for Puget Sound students, and teaches courses in music education. She maintains an active commitment to urban and multicultural arts education, and her research focuses on socialization of beginning music teachers in public schooling.  "I enjoy working with children and with beginning teachers in the performing arts, and I find our Puget Sound students to have great potential as teachers," says Professor Krueger. "I have a commitment to making things better for kids; I am convinced that music and arts education in schools can make an important contribution to social change".

Collaborative and experiential learning play a major role in my classes, which give students many opportunities to exchange ideas and search for understanding together.   Opportunities for students to work with master teachers in diverse K-12 music classrooms are a strength of our music education program."

Dr. Krueger came to Puget Sound in 1985 and she periodically returns to public school teaching.  She was an instructor at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and she previously taught K-12 music in Wisconsin public schools.  She earned her BME from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, and her MM and PhD from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  Her publications include chapters in Great Beginnings for Music Teachers: Mentoring and Supporting New Teachers (MENC, 2003),  and articles in Journal of Research in Music EducationMusic Educator's Journal, Update, Journal of Music Teacher Education, and Arts Education Policy Review.  She has presented at National, Northwest, and Washington Music Educators' Conferences and at other professional organizations, and she serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Music Teacher Education.
