A native of Washington DC, violinist and violist Tim Christie began his musical studies at the age of nine.  He spent nine summers as a violin student at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan and went on to study with Andrew Jennings and Paul Kantor at the University of Michigan, where he earned undergraduate degrees in both English Literature and Violin Performance, and a MMus in Violin Performance.  Following his studies at Michigan, Tim earned a fellowship with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida.  An active chamber musician and proponent of contemporary music, Tim is the violist of the Dexter String Quartet and the solo violist of the contemporary ensemble Brave New Works.  He also is an orchestra member of the Pacific Northwest Ballet.

"The University of Puget Sound is unique among liberal arts colleges because of its integrated School of Music.  Our performance students strive for technical mastery, while engaging the meaningful intersections between music and their other academic pursuits.  Through their hard work and limitless curiosity, they emerge as artists.  While the prevailing musical climate places a premium on “digital” accuracy in live performance, the climate at Puget Sound places a premium on insight and sincerity of expression.  It is a truly rewarding environment in which to work."
