Why aren't food and drink allowed in the library? 
We would like the library to remain neat and stain free. Closed drink containers are allowed.

Where can I ask about lost and found items?  
Lost and found items can usually be retrieved at the Circulation Desk.  Disks or CDs lost in the Information Commons can be found at the I-Commons desk.

How do I reserve a room? 
To reserve McCormick, Shelmidine, or Misner, send an e-mail message. Your message should note Room Request in the subject line. 
For the multimedia presentation room in the Tech Center, contact the OIS Help Desk at 253.879.8585.

How do I log on to the computers in the information commons?
You need your network user ID and password. If you don't have the information, go to the Office of Information Systems' Help desk during business hours.

Is there a fax machine available for student use in the library?
There is no fax machine available in the library, however, Mail Services in the Student Union Building basement does have one available.

Does the library have any typewriters available for student use?
A typewriter is available for student use in Library room #102 (book drop carrel).  To use, please ask at the Circulation Desk.

Does the library have a scanner available for student use?
There is a scanner in the Tech Center (library basement).

Where can I plug in a laptop to connect to the Internet?
There are usable ports in all the study carrels, study rooms, and tables in the Reading Room. Wireless internet access is available on the main floor, second floor, and in the basement level.

Is there a color printer available for student use?  
Sorry, the library does not have a color printer available for student use.  However, Copy Services (yellow house across the alley from Wheelock Student Center) can produce color prints and copies.  Fees for color copies are $0.50 - $1.50 depending on number of copies, size and paper used.  Contact Copy Services (contact form) for more information.

Where are VCRs to view videos?  
 There is a video viewing station next to the video collection on the main floor of the library.  A second viewing station is in multimedia carrel #202 on the Mezzanine.

Where can I find a map of the library? 
Maps for the main floor, ground floor, second floor, and third and fourth floors are available online. If you're looking for a book, check the web page listing call number locations

Where is the library instruction classroom?
The instruction classroom is in room 118 next to the Information Commons.

Where is the handicap bathroom located? 
The handicap bathroom is located on the main floor next to the Information Commons.

Where's a quiet place to study?  
Most places are quiet, although there is less traffic on the second, third and fourth floors. See Group & Quiet Study.

Where are the individual study rooms?  
Group study rooms are located on the ground floor, near the book stacks A - C.  Individual study rooms are on the main floor, near the men's restroom; and on the mezzanine

Where are water fountains located?  
Water fountains are outside of the bathrooms located on the ground floor near the copiers, on the main floor near the reference collection, on the second floor across from the display cases and on the third floor at the top of the stairs.

Where are the phones located?  
There are four phones for student use.  They are located on the ground floor, east of the women's room; on the mezzanine, west of the hallway to the annex; and on the fourth floor, east of the entry door.

Where are the copiers?
Copiers are located on the ground floor, down the stairs and to your right and the main floor, near current periodical display and also near the reference books.  To get change for the copiers, ask at the Circulation Desk.

Where are the current  paper issues, periodicals and newspapers shelved?
The current periodicals and recent newspapers are shelved behind the north end of the front reading room on the main floor.  Old volumes of newspapers are usually on microfiche and can be found through SIMON.

Where are the bound periodicals located? 
Titles beginning with A-C are located near the microform machines. Titles beginning with D-Journal of Tha are located in room 007 near the basement copiers and men's restroom. Titles beginning with Journal of The-R are located in room 006 near the basement copiers and the women's restroom. Titles beginning with S-Z are located in room 012 down the main stairs to the basement and straight ahead.

Where are University publications located? 
University publications are located across from the McCormick room on the third floor.

Where are audio and video cassettes located? 
Videos on reserve and audio cassettes are located behind the Circulation Desk.  Videos available for check-out are located on the main floor next to the Government Publications.

I live off-campus. How do I access library databases? 
When you try to access databases from off-campus, an authentication page should pop up for you to enter your university e-mail username and password. (More information)

Where can I find information on style guides for bibliographic sources?
The library has handouts near the Information Commons for MLA, APA, and Chicago.  Short web pages have been created giving basic instructions: MLA, APA, and Chicago.  For more involved questions, consult style manuals in the reference collection which can be found through SIMON.
