Humanities

About the Program

The Humanities Program offers courses that combine in various ways the subject matters and disciplinary methodologies of history, literature, philosophy, religion, art history, and music history in order to explore fundamental and enduring questions regarding the human condition. These courses are available to all students, regardless of major, and may be used to satisfy several of the University's Core requirements: the Seminar in Scholarly and Creative Inquiry; the Seminar in Writing and Rhetoric; Humanistic Approaches; and Connections.

The Program also offers an opportunity for seventeen students to live together for their freshman year, take at least one course together in the Humanities (HUM 120) during fall semester, and to take part in related co-curricular activities, such as trips to cultural events in the Tacoma/Seattle area.

The student-run pizza place, the Cellar, sold approximately 37,300 pizzas during the last academic year.
