TACOMA, Wash. – Jennifer Peterson has been selected as the head softball coach for the University of Puget Sound. Peterson takes over for Robin Hamilton, who stepped down to assume a full time appointment as associate athletic director. Peterson will be only the fourth head coach in the program’s history.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to coach at Puget Sound,” stated Peterson. “There are many successful coaches and administrators on campus are strong supporters for all the programs and I am glad to become a part of that staff.”
Peterson is no stranger to the Logger Softball program. She served as assistant softball coach and strength and conditioning coach for the department since 2003. Peterson is also a graduate of Puget Sound earning a Bachelor of Science in exercise science in 2002 and a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2003. As a student-athlete at Puget Sound, she was a four-year letter winner under Coach Hamilton.
“JP has been a tremendous asset to our athletic program for a number of years and we are excited to have her continue in this new role. She has a strong understanding of the university and is a contemporary educator of young adults”, stated Director of Athletics Amy Hackett.
Peterson has been a physical education teacher at Kentridge High School in Kent, Washington since 2003. She is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Peterson will begin her duties at softball coach on July 1.
