ALL-NWC AWARDS HANDED OUT FOR BASEBALL, SOFTBALL
TACOMA, Wash. - Baseball seniors Michael Olsen (Niwot, Colo.) and Ryan Gustafson (Bellevue, Wash./Sammamish) were both named First Team All-Northwest Conference while nine other Logger baseball and softball players were honored as the All-NWC teams were announced Monday evening.
Olsen hit .383 on the year with a school-record 14 home runs and 45 RBIs to wrap up a fantastic career. Gustafson was just as dangerous on the mound, putting together a record of 6-2 with five saves while striking out 30 batters in 44.0 innings pitched.
On the baseball side, freshman Dakota Resnik (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) was named Second Team All-NWC at second base while sophomore Jarvis Nohara (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) was named Second Team All-NWC as a utility player. Picking up honorable mention recognition were seniors Joe Newland (Tulalip, Wash./Marysville-Pilchuck), Shaun Kiriu (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) and Gregorio Beck (Chico, Calif.).
In the softball awards, senior catcher Valarie Barone (San Jose, Calif./Leigh) was named Second Team All-NWC after throwing out a NWC-best 13 runners and picking off another NWC-best three runners in 2008. Fellow senior Lindsay Fujita (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) concluded a stellar career with second team honors after hitting .272 with three home runs and a .944 fielding percentage.
Earning honorable mention honors were senior Noelle Vallecorsa (Federal Way, Wash.) and junior Meghan Watson (Brier, Wash./Mountlake Terrace).
