MCGRANE IMPROVES NCAA HEPTATHLON MARK
SALEM, Ore. - Setting a new school record in the process, sophomore Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) bettered her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the heptathlon by 79 points, placing third at the Willamette Multi's on Monday in Salem, Ore.
McGrane, who totaled 4295 in April to win the heptathlon at the 2008 NWC Multi-Event Championships, bettered her marks in six of seven events to better her chances for selection to the NCAA Championships at the end of May in Oshkosh, Wis. by recording a two-day score of 4374.
According national bests compiled by Raceberryjam.com, McGrane's new total is now 10th best in Division III this season and 15 points higher than the last 2007 qualifier. Brooke Smith of Willamette also improved her provisional best, placing second with 4462 points, the seventh best score in the nation this year. Bridget Johnson of Team XO won the heptathlon with with a score of 4974.
Selections for the 2008 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships will be announced on Sunday, May 18 on NCAA.com.
