WOMEN'S V8+WINS PETITE FINAL
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Competiting against some of the top crews on the West Coast, the Puget Sound Loggers took first in the Petite Final of the Women's Varsity Eight-D1/Open on Sunday morning at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships on Lake Natoma near Sacramento, Calif.
The Loggers, who chose to compete against Division I teams, covered the course in 7:06.3 to defeat St. Mary's by over nine seconds. Their time would have down the D2/D3/D1 Club Grand Final by six seconds.
In other action on Saturday, the Loggers took second in the Men's Novice Four final, trailing only University of San Diego. In the Women's Second Novice Eight Final, the Loggers finished third with a time of 7:48.7. The Men's Varsity Four took fourth in the finals, finishing just two-tenths of a second behind third-place Western Washington.
The Logger women will begin to prepare for their anticipated invitation to the 2008 NCAA Rowing Championships, which will also be held at Lake Natoma. The NCAA does not offer a championship in men's rowing.
