LOGGERS CELEBRATE STUDENT-ATHLETES

TACOMA, Wash. - On a night designated for celebrating the fantastic student-athletes of University of Puget Sound, the Loggers found plenty to rejoice in at the 22nd annual All-Sports Celebration on April 29 at Memorial Fieldhouse.

The night began with remarks from Academic Vice President Kris Bartanen, who touched on the importance the Logger student-athletes have on campus, both as students and as athletes.  After the Logger Club was recognized for their work to provide a quality experience for all student-athletes, those in attendance heard from Director of Athletics Amy Hackett with a recap of 2007-08 seasons.

Seniors Brian Ames (Portland, Ore.), Tristan Orford (Brush Prairie, Wash.) and Greg Swanson (University Place, Wash.) spoke on behalf of the Logger student-athletes, discussing what it means to them to be a Logger. 

Following a video slideshow, celebrating all that is Logger athletics, Faculty Athletic Representative Nancy Bristow and professor of physics Andy Rex helped to honor over 70 Scholar-Athletes, who hold a minimum 3.5 GPA and a minimum of two athletic letters.

The achievement awards came last as the Loggers were able to honor 14 student-athletes for everything from campus ministry to community service to most inspirational to most improved to scholarship, skill and determination to leadrship and finally most outstanding athletes.  The 2007-08 award winners were:
