OJAI BOUND

The team season is over for the Logger men’s tennis program after placing sixth at the NWC Championships in Yakima but for junior Jamie Hosmer and Sam McCullugh, the season continues this weekend at the Ojai Valley Tournament in Ojai, Calif.

The Loggers v. Linfield

Junior Jamie Hosmer (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) picked up a pair of victories but the Puget Sound Loggers fell to the Linfield Wildcats, 7-2, in the first round of the Northwest Conference men's tennis tournament on Friday afternoon at Yakima Tennis Club.

In the doubles competition, Hosmer teamed up with Sam McCullugh (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) to pull out a win in the number one doubles, 9-8 (7-3). Unfortunately for Puget Sound, the Wildcats collected a pair of 8-1 wins in the second and third doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

In the individual portion, Hosmer again found himself on the winning end, collecting a 6-1, 6-3 win over Nick Ruess. The Wildcats then took the final five singles matches to collect the 7-2 victory.

The Loggers v. Whitworth

Despite a strong effort, the Puget Sound Logger men's tennis team dropped their final team match of the season, 6-3, to the Whitworth Pirates and took home sixth place at the Northwest Conference Championships at Yakima Tennis Club in Yakima, Wash.

In doubles play, the team of Jamie Hosmer (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) and Sam McCullugh (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) picked up an 8-3 victory over Ed Anegon and Brian Elliot but the Pirates took the final two doubles matches to hold a 2-1 advantage.

In singles play, Hosmer came out on the winning end of an epic battle with Josh Steele that saw all three sets go to tiebreaker. Freshman Andrew Timmons (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) picked up the Loggers only other win at the number six spot, defeating Henry Williams, 6-4, 6-3.
