THE 19TH HOLE
The 2008 golf season came to a close last weekend and the Loggers put together some very competitive runs at both the men’s and women’s tournaments. The Logger women finished third at snowy Aspen Lakes GC while the men took fourth at Apple Tree GC.
NWC Women’s Championship – Day One
Battling off-and-on snow showers throughout the day, the women's golfers of the Northwest Conference took to Aspen Lakes GC on Saturday afternoon for day one of the NWC Championship. After 18 holes, the Pacific Boxers lead the team standings while Whitney Ueno of Willamette leads the individual standings.
Ueno used a consistently solid game to card a 79, making par on 12 of 18 holes to take a two-stroke lead over Pacific's Tami Park into day two of the championships. Park finished with an 81 on the day to hold sole possession of second place. Sarah Bicker of Puget Sound and Krystal Pitkonen of Whitworth are tied for third at 84 while Alicia Bratlien (Whitworth), Brittany Zefkeles (George Fox), and Brynn Hurdus (George Fox) are tied for fifth at 85.
The Boxers, who enter the championship with a three-point lead in the NWC Standings, used an 81, two 87's and an 88 to finish with a seven-stroke lead (343) over Whitworth (350). George Fox is currently in third (354), followed by Puget Sound (358), Linfield (363), Pacific Lutheran (394) and Willamette (397). Lewis & Clark does not have enough golfers to score and Whitman decided to skip the event.
