M. TENNIS TAKES 6TH AT NWC CHAMPIONSHIPS
YAKIMA, Wash. - Despite a strong effort, the Puget Sound Logger men's tennis team dropped their final team match of the season, 6-3, to the Whitworth Pirates and took home sixth place at the Northwest Conference Championships at Yakima Tennis Club in Yakima, Wash.
In doubles play, the team of Jamie Hosmer (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) and Sam McCullugh (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) picked up an 8-3 victory over Ed Anegon and Brian Elliot but the Pirates took the final two doubles matches to hold a 2-1 advantage.
In singles play, Hosmer came out on the winning end of an epic battle with Josh Steele that saw all three sets go to tiebreaker. Freshman Andrew Timmons (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) picked up the Loggers only other win at the number six spot, defeating Henry Williams, 6-4, 6-3.
The Loggers team season is over by Hosmer and McCullugh will continue their junior seasons for at least a week longer as they head down to California next weekend to participate in the Ojai Tennis Tournament in Ojai, Calif.
