HOSMER WINS TWO BUT LOGGERS FALL, 7-2
YAKIMA, Wash. - Junior Jamie Hosmer (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) picked up a pair of victories but the Puget Sound Loggers fell to the Linfield Wildcats, 7-2, in the first round of the Northwest Conference men's tennis tournament on Friday afternoon at Yakima Tennis Club.
In the doubles competition, Hosmer teamed up with Sam McCullugh (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) to pull out a win in the number one doubles, 9-8 (7-3). Unfortunately for Puget Sound, the Wildcats collected a pair of 8-1 wins in the second and third doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
In the individual portion, Hosmer again found himself on the winning end, collecting a 6-1, 6-3 win over Nick Ruess. The Wildcats then took the final five singles matches to collect the 7-2 victory.
With the loss, the Loggers will now get their rackets ready for a Friday evening contest with Whitworth in the NWC 5th-6th Place match. That match with the Pirates is set for 6:30 p.m. at Yakima Tennis Club.
