ON TO YAKIMA
The Loggers wrapped up the regular season with a pair of strong wins and now have some momentum heading into the NWC Tournament in Yakima. The Loggers will open up postseason play on Friday at Noon against Linfield.
The Loggers v. George Fox
Playing their next-to-last match of the regular season, the Puget Sound Loggers blanked the visiting George Fox Bruins, 9-0, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Friday evening at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
The Loggers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in doubles play, led by the number one team of Jamie Hosmer (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) and Sam McCullugh (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) defeating Mac Ovenell and Jordon Vargas, 8-4. Hosmer and McCullugh recently accepted an invitation to play in the doubles competition at the Ojai Tournament on April 24-27 in Ojai, Calif.
In singles play, Hosmer picked up a win over Ovenell at the number one spot and the rest of the Loggers followed, including a straight sweep by Andrew Timmons (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View). 6-0, 6-0, over Scott Porter.
The Loggers v. Willamette
Taking all three matches in doubles play, the Puget Sound Loggers were able to pick up a 6-3 victory over the Willamette Bearcats in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
In doubles play, the Loggers swept all three matches, including an 8-2 win by Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community) and Carl Larson (Portland, Ore./Wilson) over Micah Mack and Fizt Paccione.
In singles play, the Loggers picked up wins at the numbers two, four and five spots to clinch the NWC match and move up into fifth place in the conference standings.
Scouting Linfield
The Wildcats head into the week as the number three seed in the NWC Tournament after finishing 11-8 overall and 11-5 in NWC play. Linfield is 72-42 overall in singles play, posting winning records at all six positions. In doubles play, the 'Cats are 33-24 but just 9-10 at the number one spot.
