ONE MORE PRACTICE ROUND
The Loggers put together another good weekend on the course as they finish tuning-up for next week's NWC Championship. This week, they will play 18 holes on Sunday against Pacific Lutheran at Fort Lewis GC.
Loggers on Saturday
Taking to the course at Fort Lewis GC, the Puget Sound Loggers posted strong rounds on both the men's and women's sides on Saturday. The Loggers won a dual with Pacific (Ore.) on the men's side while the women finished the first day of the Tacoma Invitational with a four-stroke lead.
On the men's side, sophomore Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.) shot a three-over 75 while sophomore Greg Kirkpatrick (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris) shot a five-over 77. The Loggers finished with a team score of 311 while the Pacific Boxers shot a 315 on the day.
On the women's side, Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) and Megan Starr (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) each shot 87 to hold the top spot on the individual leaderboard and allow the Loggers to take a four-stroke lead with a day one score of 359. Pacific shot 363, followed by George Fox (364) and Pacific Lutheran (396).
Logger Men on Sunday
If Sunday's men's golf five-way is any indication of the upcoming Northwest Conference Championships, the Puget Sound Loggers have to like their chances as they finished just one stroke back of Whitworth to take second at the Whitman/Whitworth Five-Way on Sunday at Apple Tree G.C. in Yakima, Wash.
The Loggers carded a trio of 77s from Greg Swanson (University Place, Wash./Curtis), Tim Bartz (University Place, Wash./Oregon State) and Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.). Jason Boettner (Toledo, Wash./Centralia CC) shot a 80 while Greg Kirkpatrick (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris) carded an 81 as the Loggers shot 311 on the day.
Whitworth took first, shooting 310 on the course, as the Pirates' Jordan Carter took first with a round of 75. Pacific Lutheran finished third with a score of 315, followed by Pacific (327) and Whitman (352).
The Logger Women on Sunday
After leading the four-team tournament following day one, the Puget Sound Logger women's golf team slipped a bit on day two but still finished third at the Tacoma Invitational on Sunday at Fort Lewis GC.
On day two, Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) shot a round a 88 to finish at 175 on the weekend, good enough to tie for fifth place. Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) also shot a sub-90 round, carding an 89 to finish ninth with a score of 182. The Loggers as a team shot 373 on Sunday to bring their final score to 732.
George Fox won the tournament, shooting a 347 on day two to hold off Pacific by just one stroek, 711 to 712. Brittany Zefkeles took medalist honors, carding rounds of 88 and 84 for a combined 172.
