MCGRANE SECOND AFTER DAY ONE OF NWC MULTI'S
NEWBERG, Ore. - Trailing by just 19 points, Puget Sound sophomore Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) is second in the heptathlon following the first day of the 2008 Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships, hosted by George Fox in Newberg, Ore.
McGrane used a first place finish in the 100m hurdles (15.24) to earn the second spot with 2,512 points. Willamette's Brooke Smith is in first with 2,531 points after winning both the high jump and the shot put. Melissa Leighty of George Fox won the 200m dash to hold third place with 2,469 points.
In the men's decathlon, Matt Maze (Kailua Kona, Hawaii/Hawaii Prep) is seventh with 3,060 points while Frank Speetjens (Lihue, Hawaii/Kauai) is 11th with 2,722 points. Josh Lovell of Linfield leads the event with 3,604 points.
The heptathlon and decathlon continue on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
