LOOKING TO GET BACK ON TRACK
The Loggers fell in a pair of matches last weekend and will look to right the ship this weekend, hosting Whitworth and Whitman.
The Loggers vs. Pacific
The doubles team of Jamie Hosmer (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) and Sam McCullugh (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) won their fifth consecutive match to help lead the Puget Sound Loggers men's tennis team defeat the Pacific Boxers, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference tennis match on Saturday at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton, Ore. On the women's side, the Boxers collected the 5-4 win over UPS.
In the men's match, Hosmer and McCullugh were tested by the team of Michael Okada and Justin Kinney but the top UPS doubles team was able to outlast the Boxers' top team, 9-8. The Loggers continued to dominate doubles play, taking a 3-0 lead into singles play. In individual play, Hosmer defeated Okada at the number one spot, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 as the Loggers won five of six singles matches.
In the women's match, the UPS doubles team of Sam Taylor (Hood River, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and Rochelle Hebert (Lake Tapps, Wash./Auburn Riverside) won the top doubles match, 8-1, but Pacific took the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into individual play. In singles play, the Loggers won at the top three positions but the Boxers collect wins at the bottom three positions to collect the 5-4 victory.
The Loggers vs. Pacific Lutheran
Playing a road match on their home courts, the Puget Sound Loggers were swept by the Pacific Lutheran Lutes in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Sunday at UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
The Lutes swept through the doubles matches and then had no trouble in the singles matches to collect the 9-0 victory.
Scouting Whitworth
Currently in second place in the Northwest Conference, the Pirates bring a record of 12-4 overall and 10-2 in NWC play into the weekend. The Bucs are 72-24 in singles play and 35-13 in doubles play this season.
Scouting Whitman
The Missionaries bring a record of 10-9 overall and 8-4 in NWC to Tacoma this weekend. Individually, Whitman is 63-51 while in doubles play, Whitman's record is 33-24.
