The Loggers head into April ready for some warm weather as the conference season heats up.
Logger Women at Spring Classic
Following a strong day one, the Puget Sound Loggers clinched third place at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on Saturday at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore. with a round of 368 for a two-day total of 734.
Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) shot a 90 on day two to finish in fourth place with a score of 178. Kristine Juhola (Milwaukie, Ore.) and Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) both improved their day one scores by two strokes to finish with rounds of 91 to bring their totals to 184, good enough to tie for 10th place.
Whitney Ueno of Willamette took medalist honors, shooting a 160 (81-79) to win by seven strokes over Brynn Hurdus of Linfield. Pacific and Linfield tied for the team title, with both teams shooting 724. With the shared win, Pacific maintained their lead in the Northwest Conference standings, holding a three point lead over Linfield. Puget Sound is fifth in the standings, heading into the NWC Championships on April 19-20 in Sisters, Ore.
Logger Men at Spring Classic
Playing in the second official Northwest Conference event of the 2007-08 season, the Puget Sound Loggers finished fifth at the NWC Men's Spring Classic at Quail Valley Golf Club in Banks, Ore.
Logger senior Greg Swanson (University Place, Wash./Curtis) and sophomore Mike Pannier (Sandy, Utah/Brighton) recorded second round scores of 76 and 79 respectively to tie with teammate Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.) for 16th overall, 19 strokes back of medalist Max Bonk of Pacific.
The Pacific Boxers won the two-day event with a score of 592. Whitworth was second, shooting 514, followed by Linfield (618), Pacific Lutheran (634), Puget Sound (639), Willamette (679), Whitman (681), George Fox (705) and Lewis & Clark (769).
The final NWC event of the season will occur on April 19-20 at the NWC Championships on Apple Tree GC in Yakima, Wash.
The Coach
Dick Ulrich serves as the head coach for men's and women's golf. His experience in intercollegiate athletics includes over 35 years of teaching, coaching and administering athletic programs. Now in his 11th season as the Loggers' coach, he directs and administers all aspects of the golf program. Under Ulrich's guidance, the Logger golf teams have won 18 tournaments in the past five years including two Northwest Conference Championships. The golf program has produced 20 individual tournament medalists, 12 Northwest Conference All-Conference players, and participation in two NCAA Division III National Championship tournaments.
