LACROSSE CLINCHES WINNING RECORD WITH 21-10 WIN

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Winning their seventh game in eight games, the Puget Sound Loggers defeated the Oberlin Yeowomen, 21-10, in a NCAA Division III women's lacrosse match on Friday evening in Forest Grove, Ore.  With the win, the Loggers clinch a winning season with four matches left to be played.

The Loggers (7-2) took an early advantage after scoring the game's first six goals to hold a commanding 6-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest.  The two squads exchanged goals for the remaining minutes of the half as Puget Sound took a 9-4 lead into the break.

In the second half, Puget Sound scored the first two goals on the period and following a single Yeowomen goal, the Loggers scored two more to take a 13-5 lead.  Puget Sound moved the game into a running-clock mode with 17:27 remaining when Jessica Knight (Portland, Ore./Grant) scored unassisted to give UPS a 17-7 lead.  Two more goals by Knight, as well as a goal by Lindsay Pearce (Portland, Ore./Sunset) gave the Loggers the 21-10 win.

The Loggers were led in scoring by Knight, who finished with six goals and one assist.  Sofia Lama (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Torrey Pines) finished with five goals and two assists while Anna Gunderson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) added four goals.  Freshman Ana Calciano (Farmington, Conn./Miss Porter's School) made 12 saves to collect the win while allowing the 10 Oberlin goals.

Taylor Fey led Oberlin with five goals and an assist.  Kaitlin Barrer made 22 saves for the Yeowomen, allowing the 21 Logger goals.

The Loggers will next be in action on April 12 when they travel to McMinnville, Ore. to take on Linfield.
