LACROSSE WINS THRILLER ON TURF, 15-14

TACOMA, Wash. - Playing the first ever game on the artificial surface of Lower Baker Field, the Puget Sound Loggers won a thriller over the Potsdam State Bears, 15-14, in a NCAA Division III women's lacrosse match on Thursday evening in Tacoma, Wash.

In the first half, Potsdam went on a 5-0 run early in the game to take a commanding 6-1 lead over the Loggers.  The Bears eventually pushed that lead to 8-2 before the Loggers came roaring back, scoring seven unanswered goals over the final 4:29 of the period to take a 9-8 lead into halftime.

In the second period, the two squads exchanged goals and Potsdam tied the game at 14-14 on a goal by Jessica Asyrassian with 8:29 remaining in the game but the Loggers used a free position shot by Anna Gunderson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) with 3:03 remaining to take the 15-14 victory over the visiting Bears.

Freshman phenom Sofia Lama (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Torrey Pines) finished the game with six goals and three assists to bring her season goal total up to 30.  Junior Jessica Knight (Portland, Ore./Grant) added four goals and an assist.  Lindsay O'Brien (Reading, Vt./Westminster) chipped in three goals while Gunderson finished with a pair.  Freshman goalie Ana Calciano (Farmington, Conn./Miss Porter's School) was solid in net, making 18 saves on the game.

The Bears were led by five goals from Alisha Schaad.  Freshman Lindsay Myers started in goal, making 11 saves and allowing the 15 Logger goals.

Puget Sound will be back in action on Friday evening when they travel down to Forest Grove, Ore. for a neutral-site match with Oberlin.  The match with the Yeowomen is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. on the Pacific University campus.
