LOGGERS DROWN LAKERS, 23-18

TACOMA, Wash. - A strong offensive attack led the Puget Sound Loggers to a 23-18 victory over the visiting Oswego State Lakers in a NCAA Division III women's lacrosse match on Tuesday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

The Lakers (0-2) looked to be in control early, scoring the match's first three goals, but following a timeout by Puget Sound (5-2), the Loggers scored six unassisted goals to take a 6-3 lead less than 10 minutes into the game.  Puget Sound continued to push the lead, taking a 16-9 advantage into the break.

In the second half, the two teams exchanged runs.  The Loggers pushed the lead to as many as nine goals but the Lakers scored the final four goals of the game to tighten the final gap to five goals, 23-18.

Puget Sound was led by freshman Sofia Lama (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Torrey Pines), who finished with six goals and three assists.  Junior Jessica Knight (Portland, Ore./Grant) and freshman Katie Pavlat (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) each added five goals.  Lindsay O'Brien (Reading, Vt./Westminster) chipped in three goals and an assist while Lizze Cohen (Issaquah, Wash./Overlake) and Anna Gunderson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) each finished with two goals.  Freshman keeper Ana Calciano (Farmington, Conn./Miss Porter's School) was solid in net, making nine saves for UPS.

Oswego State was led by five goals from Michelle MenDell and four goals and two assists from Rachel Ventresca.  Junior Shannon O'Brien made 12 saves for the Lakers while allowing the 23 Puget Sound goals.
