LOGGERS POWER PAST GRIFFINS, 24-10

TACOMA, Wash. - Freshman Sofia Lama (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Torrey Pines) scored six goals and junior Lindsay O'Brien (Reading, Vt./Westminster) added five more as the Puget Sound Loggers made easy work of the Fontbonne Griffins, 24-10, in a NCAA Division III women's lacrosse match on Saturday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers (2-1) broke the game open early in the contest as O'Brien scored three goals in the first three minutes and 30 seconds as part of a 6-0 Logger run.  The Griffins put on a mini-run of their own midway through the half, scoring three consecutive goals but Puget Sound scored eight of the next nine goals to take a 17-5 lead into the break.

In the second half, the teams played a closer game as the three healthy Puget Sound reserves earned playing time.  The Loggers still managed to outshoot the Griffins, 14-7, in the second period while outscoring Fontbonne, 7-5, to take the 24-10 victory.

In addition to the six goals by Lama and the five from O'Brien, junior Jessica Knight (Portland, Ore./Grant) scored five goals and assisted on six others to help lead the Loggers to the victory.  UPS goalkeeper Ana Calciano (Farmington, Conn./Miss Porter's School) made five saves in the contest to collect the second win of her collegiate career.

Fontbonne was led by five goals from junior Katie Radeackar.  Goalie Clarie Kallio played well against the barrage of Logger shots, making 13 saves while collecting the loss.

The Loggers hit the road for the first time in 2008 next week when they travel down to California for three matches.  The road trip will begin on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. against Whittier.
