All-NWC Awards Handed Out For Baseball, Softball

TACOMA, Wash. - Baseball seniors Michael Olsen (Niwot, Colo.) and Ryan Gustafson (Bellevue, Wash./Sammamish) were both named First Team All-Northwest Conference while nine other Logger baseball and softball players were honored as the All-NWC teams were announced Monday evening.

The Puget Sound Loggers closed the book on the 2008 season with a set of exciting games with the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran.

In the nightcap, the Loggers lead the Bruins, 5-3, in the fifth inning of a suspended game that will be resumed on Sunday.

Following a tough weekend at Logger Field, the Puget Sound baseball team will pack their bags for Newberg, Ore. as they take on George Fox on their final road trip of the season. They hope to play the spoiler to George Fox, who sits one game behind first place Linfield with eight to play.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Using a solo home run in the top of the third, senior Michael Olsen (Niwot, Colo.) became the new school record holder for home runs in a season but the Lewis & Clark Pioneers defeated the Puget Sound Loggers, 17-7, in a Northwest Conference baseball game on Saturday afternoon in Portland, Ore. The Loggers lead game two, 9-4, in the top of the seventh but will have to wait until Sunday to resume that game as it was called because of darkness.

The Loggers had a battle in Tacoma this past weekend with Pacific, dropping two heartbreakers on Sunday. They look to battle back as they head down I-5 to Portland to face Lewis & Clark in a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.

Baseball Changes Finalized

TACOMA, Wash. - Due to extremely wet weather in the Tacoma area, the Puget Sound Loggers baseball season opener against Corban College, scheduled for Saturday, has been cancelled. No immediate plans for rescheduling the contest has been announced.

2008 Preview

The Logger baseball team will throw the first pitch of the season on Saturday, February 9 at noon at Logger Field against the Corban Warriors to kick off the 2008 campaign. The Loggers ended last season 16-21-1 and 13-11 in Northwest Conference play, good enough for fourth place in the competitive conference.
