LOGGERS 1ST, 2ND AT UPS INVITE
FIRCREST, Wash. - In their first competition of the spring, the Puget Sound Logger golf teams put together a pair of strong performances at the UPS Invitational at Fircrest Golf Club in Fircrest. The Logger women took first in the four-team competition while the Logger men finished a close second to current Northwest Conference leader Linfield.
In the women's tournament, sophomore Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) used rounds of 84 and 90 to tie for medalist honors with Whitney Ueno of Willamette. Kristin Juhola (Milwaukie, Ore.) used a hole-in-one during Thursday's first round to tie for runner-up honors. Freshman Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) took fifth with a 179. The Loggers finished with a team score of 721 to finish 29 strokes ahead of second place Linfield.
On the men's side, senior Greg Swanson (University Place, Wash/Curtis) shot rounds of 71 and 75 to finish three strokes back of medalist Chris Packard of Pacific Lutheran. Tim Bartz (University Place, Wash./Oregon State) shot 70 on Friday to record the lowest round of the tournament and take third individually. As a team, the Loggers shot 615 in the 36-hole tournament, just three strokes back of Linfield and seven strokes ahead of Pacific Lutheran. Willamette placed fourth with a 639.
