UPS TRACK SOLID IN OUTDOOR OPENER
TACOMA, Wash. - Placing first in 29 of 37 events entered, the Puget Sound Loggers opened up the outdoor track and field season on a strong note in a meet against Lewis & Clark and Seattle Pacific on Saturday at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. UPS and L&C scored the meet against each other, with the Loggers winning 101-76 on the women's side and 129.5-55.5 on the men's side.
On the women's side, Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) took first in both the 100 meter dash (12.51) and 200 meter dash (26.32). Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) had a strong start to her sophomore outdoor season, winning both the long jump (15-2) and 100 meter hurdles (15.23).
In the men's events, junior Darrell Stewart (Long Beach, Calif./Loyola) took first in both the 100 meters (11.35) and 200 meters (22.89). Senior Pete Van Sant (Santa Cruz, Calif.) led the way in the 400 meter dash (53.52) and the long jump (20-11.25). Greg Bailey (Beaverton, Ore./Westview) was strong in the throws, taking first in the discus (131-10) and hammer (130-11).
The Loggers will be home again next week when they host the Joe Peyton Invitational.
