BUCS NIP LOGGERS, 6-3
TACOMA, Wash. - In a match that could have gone either way, the Whitworth Pirates slipped past the Puget Sound Loggers, 6-3, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Friday afternoon at UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
The doubles squad of Jamie Hosmer (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) and Sam McCullugh (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) earned the Loggers a point at the number one spot, outlasting the team of Ed Anegon and Joe Wales, 9-7. Unfortunately for UPS, the Pirates were on the winning end of the other two competitive matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Hosmer breezed to a singles win at the number two spot, 6-1, 6-0, to give the Loggers another point but freshman Alen Harrison (Southborough, Mass./The River School) was the only other Logger to earn a win, taking the point at the number five singles spot.
The Loggers will take on national-power Whitman on Saturday afternoon in a match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The time could change as Pacific Lutheran and Whitworth will be playing in the Tennis Pavilion as well.
