LOGGERS SLIP PAST BOXERS, 5-4
TACOMA, Wash. - After winning two of three doubles matches, the Puget Sound Loggers earned their first victory of the 2008 season, defeating Pacific, 5-4, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday afternoon at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
At the number one double postion, the UPS team of Katie Schultz (Auburn, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) and Sam Taylor (Hood River, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) held off the Pacific team of Jamie Yoshino and Dayna Wong, 8-6. The Loggers were also aided by the number two team of Alissa Wolf (Durango, Colo.) and Ashley Spencer (Hilo, Hawaii/Waiakea), who picked up an 8-3 win over Sophie Waddington and Laura Swenson.
In singles play, Puget Sound picked up wins from Schultz, Wolf and Spencer to clinch the 5-4 victory over the Boxers.
The Loggers will be in action again on Sunday afternoon when they take on cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran in a match set to begin at noon at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma.
