Information Commons renamed to Learning Commons The Information Commons has undergone a number of changes in technology, resources, and student learning since it was first established in Collins Library in 2000. To reflect these changes, and to shift the focus from the library, as information provider, to the students, as learners, the Information Commons has been renamed the Learning Commons.
- Resources and services from the library, the campus, and beyond have become more electronically accessible and integrated for purposes of research, collaboration and referral.
- Collaborative learning is encouraged and the focus has shifted from what is being taught to more problem-based student learning.
- There is an increasing need on campus for spaces that support student's changing patterns of learning, collaboration, multi-tasking, and social interaction.
