SWIMMING EAST

The Loggers hit the road once again this week, wrapping up the dual portion of the schedule this week as they travel to College of Idaho, Whitman and Whitworth.

The Loggers vs. Linfield

The Puget Sound Loggers picked up a 137-63 win over the Linfield Wildcats on the women's side but the Wildcats got the better of the Logger on the men's side, winning 107-98, in a Northwest Conference swimming dual on Friday evening at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.

On the women's side, senior Amy Polansky (Menomonie, Wis.) took two wins on the night, finishing first in the 200 IM and 100 Free. Four other Loggers finished first in individual races and UPS took both relays to collect the dual meet victory.

On the men's side, Paul Hughes (University Place, Wash.) was the lone Logger male swimmer to win an event, taking first in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:11.29.

The Loggers vs. Lewis & Clark

In the final home swim meet on the season, the Puget Sound Loggers made the most of the opportunity, sweeping visiting Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference swim dual on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Pool in Tacoma, Wash. The women won 113-86 while the men were victorious, 101-76.

On the women's side, Leesa Cotton (Keizer, Ore.) took first in two events, winning both the 100 meter backstroke (1:10.09) and the 200 meter freestyle (2:05.87). UPS took first in six of 11 events en route to the 27 point win.

On the men's side, the Loggers won just four events but they used their depth to collect the 25 point victory.

Best in the Northwest

There are a number of Logger swimmers who have posted the top time in the NWC this season. Nicholas Allen has the top time in the men's 50 Free (21.75) while James Butler has the top time in the 200 Back (156.29). Garrett Shields has the top time in the 100 Breast (59.24) and the 100 Fly (52.27). Paul Hughes is tops in the 200 breast (2:11.29).

On the women's side, Amy Polansky is tops in the 100 Breast (1:08.78), 200 Breast (2:26.66) and 200 IM (2:13.41).

The Coach

Chris Myhre returns as head coach of the Logger swim program. A graduate of the University of Hawaii-Manoa, Myhre has coached 71 NAIA All-Americans, 16 NCAA All-Americans, 11 individual NAIA National Champions and led the Loggers to NAIA team titles for women in 1996, 1998 and 1999 and men's titles from 1995-97.
