#9 UPS TAKES OVER NWC LEAD WITH 89-82 WIN
TACOMA, Wash. - Just four games into the Northwest Conference season, the ninth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers are now the only school undefeated in NWC play, picking up an 89-82 win over the previously-undefeated Linfield Wildcats on Friday evening at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
The Loggers (11-1, 4-0 NWC) and Wildcats (7-5, 2-1 NWC) were both quite warm offensively in the first half, shooting 52.8% and 60% respectively from the field. Senior Taylor Marsh (Lynnwood, Wash./Meadowdale) had three from behind the arc en route to 15 first-half points and a 46-38 Logger halftime lead.
In the second period, the Wildcats clawed back, erasing an 11-point Logger lead to pull even with 2:53 remaining but Puget Sound kept the pressure on, picking up the 82-89 victory.
The Loggers were led by 20 points from Marsh, who also added six rebounds. Junior Jason Foster (Tacoma, Wash./Foss) added 19 points to go with seven boards. Robert Krauel (Phoenix, Ariz./North Canyon) and Austin Boyce (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) both came off the bench to score 16 and 14 points respectively.
Linfield was led by 19 points and 11 boards from freshman K.C. Wiser. Steve Taylor added 14 while Brian Murphy and Austin Hunt each added 13. Joel Paul rounded out the Wildcats in double-digit scoring, finishing with 12 points in the loss.
The Loggers will take a week off before playing host to Whitman on Friday evening. Tip-0ff with the Missionaries is set for 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
