Approval ProgramsLibraries use Approval Plan programs to give faculty book selectors the ease and convenience of selecting books while actually having it in hand. A book supplier will work with faculty to set up tailored criteria for the professors particular discipline. Newly published books fitting that profile are then sent to the library for the faculty to peruse for a few weeks. During that time the faculty determines if the library should purchase or return each book. Guidelines for Approval Plan Participants New books for your approval are sent each week, providing any are published in your specified subject area. These are shelved in your designated area in the Faculty Reading Room in the library, room 103. As each new shipment arrives, the previous weeks books are shifted down to the Week 2 and Week 3 location on the bookshelf. Your books will be available for preview in the Faculty Reading Room, carrel 103, for three weeks. You may review your approval books any time during the three week period. Note to History Selectors: Feel free to preview and select books not under your name if they interest you. History books received on approval are sorted according to the subject profile you completed, but some subjects may cross over or be vague and be on the shelf of one of the other two history faculty. To Add an Approved Book to the Library Collection Reshelve the desired book under one of the "Purchase" sections and write your name on the book slip. This will help us know who the selector is and reconfirm you do want to purchase the book. If you want to be notified when the books is cataloged so you may check it out, write this on the books slip. To Reject a Book Reshelve the book under the "Do Not Purchase" section in the Week 3 bookshelf. If a book has not been specifically Accepted or Rejected prior to the fourth week, it will automatically be added to the library collection and its cost will be expended from your fund. Please review your approval books in the Faculty Reading Room. When leaving, please make sure the light is off and the door closes behind you. It will lock automatically. Take care not to lock your keys in the room. Please return your borrowed key to the location you acquired it - either the Circulation or Acquisitions Departments. |
