BACK IN ACTION
After a hiatus longer than planned, the 5-0 Puget Sound Loggers will return to action on Saturday evening when they take on Division II Cal State Stanislaus at 7:30 p.m.. The Loggers were scheduled to play at Warner Pacific on Tuesday night but flooding on Interstate 5 prevented the Loggers from making the trek to Portland. The make-up date for that game is still yet to be determined.
Statistically Speaking
The Loggers lead the Northwest Conference in scoring offense (100.6 ppg), scoring margin (+25.4), field goal percentage (.514), steals (14.40 spg), turnover margin (+11.80), and three-point field goals made (10.60 3pg).
Antwan Williams 18 ppg is third in the conference in scoring but he leads the conference in assists (7.40 apg) and steals (3.40 spg). Austin Boyce is coming off the bench to lead the NWC in field goal percentage (.667) and three-point field goal percentage (.667).
Among The Nation's Best
The Loggers fell two spots in the D3hoops.com Top 25 despite being idle last week. Puget Sound collected 317 points to occupy the 14th spot.
Chasing 1,000
The Loggers have three players who could score their 1,000th point the maroon and white this season, including a pair of juniors. Senior Taylor Marsh has scored 717 points in 82 games played for the Loggers and would have to average 14.15 ppg the rest of the way to reach 1,000 points by the end of the season.
Junior guard Antwan Williams has 714 points in 58 games and would have to average 14.3 ppg the rest of the way to reach 1,000 by the end of the year. Also a junior, Jason Foster has 769 points in 57 games, including 56 started, and he would have to average 11.55 ppg to reach 1,000 this season.
Scouting Cal State Stanislaus (Saturday at 7:30 p.m.)
The Warriors, out of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, come to Tacoma on Saturday with a record of 2-4 overall. Heath Colvin is averaging 16.2 ppg to lead CSUS in scoring while Rick Cardoso is averaging 13.2 ppg to go with a team-high 6.3 rpg.
The Coach
Justin Lunt enters his second season as head coach of the Logger men's basketball program. A graduate of Pacific Lutheran, Lunt is a native of San Diego, Calif. Heading into this weekend, Lunt now has a career record of 23-7, including 11-5 in the Northwest Conference.
