LOGGERS TIE FOR 23RD AT NCAA XC CHAMPIONSHIP

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Making their second straight appearance as a team at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, the Puget Sound Logger women tied with Elizabethtown for 23rd in the nation on Saturday morning at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.  Senior Brittany Hodgson (Grants Pass, Ore.) placed 33rd while freshman Kenna Patrick (Auburn, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) took 51st to lead the Loggers.  On the men's side, Francis Reynolds (Palo Alto, Calif.) took 88th as the lone UPS male to run.

Hodgson (right) finished the 6,000-meter course in 22:31 while Patrick finished the course in 22:46.  Sophomore Emma Kelsey (Bayside, Calif./Arcata) also ran a strong race, finishing in 23:32 in 187th place.  All three teams are better than any Logger has run in a national championship meet since the NCAA moved from 5,000-meters to 6,000-meters.

Hodgson's 33rd is also the Loggers best finish at the national championships since Dana Boyle won the national title in 2001.  The individual title was won by Sarah Zerzan of Willamette, her second straight national title, while Amherst won the team title, finishing five runners within the top 45.

Reynolds finished the 8,000-meter course in 25:46, just 82 seconds behind the first place runner, Tyler Sagi from Wisconsin-Platteville.  His mark is 14th all-time for the Loggers in national championship races.  New York University took the team title on the men's side, recording 128 points with five runners in the top 40.
