LOGGERS PLACE THREE ON FIRST TEAM ALL-NWC
SPOKANE, Wash. - After leading the Loggers to a record of 15-3-1, three Puget Sound seniors have been named to the First Team All-Northwest Conference, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday evening. Midfielder Greg Swanson (University Place, Wash./Curtis), midfielder Scott Blanchet (Gig Harbor, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) and forward Mark Conrad (Seattle, Wash./Willamette) were recognized by the NWC as among the best in the conference.
Swanson earned honors after scoring six goals and assisting on five others in 2007 in his second season as a team co-captain. Blanchet, also a co-captain in 2007, scored six goals and assisted on two others in 16 games played for the Loggers before being sidelined with an injury late in the season. Conrad led the Logger offense with eight goals and six assists for 22 points in 2007 on his way to First Team honors.
Senior goalkeeper Pete Van Sant (Santa Cruz, Calif.) wrapped up his record-setting career as a Second Team All-NWC honoree. Also earning second team honors were senior defender Andrew Hewitt (Monroe, Wash./Archbishop Murphy) and junior defender Taylor Hyde (Sandy, Utah/Waterford).
Sophomores Cole Peterson (Great Falls, Mont./C.M. Russell) and Alex Lehecka (Burlington, Wash./Burlington-Edison) were named Honorable Mention selections following solid seasons in their second year with the Loggers.
Michael Ferguson of Pacific Lutheran was named NWC Offensive Player of the Year while his teammate Brian Lubeck was named NWC Defensive Player of the Year. Whitworth coach Sean Bushey was name NWC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.
